Best ukulele brands Lanikai ukuleles are probably some of the most popular ukes out there. In general, they are affordable, built well, look nice, and have a great sound. In my research I was especially impressed with the SC Spruce Concert Uke. Maybe it’s my personal taste – I prefer the understated, less glitzy stuff in life that has lasting quality and depth to it. And that is exactly what Lanikai delivers with this uke.

The price range of this ukulele is perfect to make it accessible to beginners but it is also great for an experienced player or songwriter. It has a solid spruce top and a mahogany back and sides. Being concert sized makes it a little more versatile and easy to use for anyone. Lanikai is one of the bestselling and premier brands of ukulele, and their reputation speaks for itself.

Concert sized

What is a concert ukulele? The concert ukulele is right between the soprano and tenor models, which gives it a bit deeper tone and more volume than a soprano but still that characteristic sweetness of the traditional ukulele sound.

Spruce top with mahogany back & sides

Spruce is one of the more common woods for a ukulele. Different types of wood produce different sounds, so getting the right kind of wood is actually more important thank you might think. Spruce has a tight grain and produces a very vibrant and rich sounding tone. Mahogany is not quite as dense and adds a little brightness and depth to the sound. Together they produce a very well-rounded sound – bright without being tinny, and depth without losing that characteristic ukulele sound.

Solid wood top

Many ukuleles are not solid wood – as in, they are built with laminate wood which is essentially the same as a nice plywood. Some of those are okay sounding, but to really get a good deep sound, having the uke built from solid wood is a MUST. This one has 100% solid spruce for the top.

The Cons

Best Price

The SC Spruce retails are different as always, I have found that Amazon has the best price. They generally have very generous discounts though they do change daily .

I was surprised when I got this ukulele, not expecting it to be this nice and it sounds great. I don’t see how the quality could be any better even if I had paid more. I spent all day playing it when I first got it and it has been very enjoyable to use. If the Lanikai Soprano Ukuleles are built like this one I’ll pick one of those up too and give away the cheap one that I have.

It is the best ukulele brands

I do recommend getting the Lanikai LUT-1 Chromatic & Ukulele Tuner if you are buying the uke so you’ll have a perfect match (**Rob’s note – the Lanikai tuner is out of stock but I use and recommend the Intelli IMT500 Clip-on Tuner). This uke came with Aquila strings and from what I have read they are the best ones. All in all I am very pleased with this ukulele, it was well packed and I received it quicker than I thought I would. If you are thinking about a ukulele, spend the extra cash and get one of these or another one from Lanikai, you won’t be kicking yourself later on if you do.
